Apocalyptica ist eine finnische Band, die 1993 in Helsinki gegründet wurde. Die Band besteht aus den Cellisten Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen und Perttu Kivilaakso. Ursprünglich als Metallica - Tribute - Band gestartet, haben sie ihren eigenen Stil entwickelt, indem sie Metal - Songs auf dem Violoncello spielen. Ihr Debütalbum "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" (1996) machte sie weltweit bekannt. Seitdem haben sie mehrere Alben veröffentlicht und mit Künstlern wie James Hetfield, Corey Taylor und Till Lindemann zusammengearbeitet. Apocalyptica haben über vier Millionen Alben verkauft und sind bekannt für ihre einzigartige Mischung aus klassischer Musik und Metal.
